You would usually hear many mountain guides suggesting that this is one of the best routes to take due to the chances of reaching the summit, and in recent years it has become the most popular trails for many trekkers. The route is known to be physically more demanding in comparison with the ‘Coca Cola’ route; hence it has been given the nickname of the ‘Whiskey’ route, with a natural rather than a modified path. The climb typically lasts for a minimum of 6 days (one day longer than the minimum required for Marangu route), and the success rate for summiting in percentage appears significantly higher. This could be due to the great acclimatisation it provides especially of trekking at high altitudes during the day but sleeping at lower elevations. Or it might bean indication that a larger number of experienced and well trained individuals are attracted to this route. The chances of reaching Uhuru peak via this path increases with a recommended extra day for acclimatisation, which additionally reduces the number of hours trekking the day before the final ascent, allowing the body time to relax, recuperate and prepare for Uhuru peak.
