This route starts from the Northern side of the mountain near the Kenyan border Tarakea, and offers great opportunities of seeing wildlife compared to the other routes; you may encounter monkeys, buffaloes and even elephants! There are several variations of this route with 5 days being the minimum on trek which offers the least acclimatisation to the altitudes; but on the other hand the 6-7 day trek passing via Mawenzi Tarn, offering better acclimatisation. Similarly to the Marangu ‘Coca Cola’ route, physically it is known to be a fairly easier route compared to the others, and no scrambling is required. It is a great alternative to the Marangu route, for those looking for a less busy route in terms of people traffic!
