Shira is one of the lesser utilised routes, which progresses up the mountain from the west side. Just like the Lemosho trail, it is known as the original Londrossi route and the registration process is completed at the Londrossi Gate (2250m). Thereafter you are driven to an elevation of 3720m where you begin your trek at the plateau in the moorland zone of the mountain, which results in missing out on a hike through the forest zone of Mount Kilimanjaro. The high elevated start is advised only for those individuals that are comfortable with such altitudes. More than the Lemosho route, one’s experience on the initial days will be a solitary one with literally no other individuals to been seen around besides your group and support team.
