COVID-19 updated entry requirements - updated 15 September 2022

On 15 September 2022 the Tanzanian government and 02 August 2022 the Zanzibar government have issued new guidelines for entry considering the ongoing COVID pandemic.

TANZANIA (AND ZANZIBAR) LATEST COVID ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - 15 SEPTEMBER 2022

Updated COVID entry requirements for tourists and residents traveling into Tanzania after 15 September 2022 and Zanzibar after 12 August 2022.

TANZANIA COVID ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

The entry requirements have changed into Tanzania (15 September 2022). The major points for our tourists to consider when traveling to Tanzania are:

  1. All travelers entering the United Republic of Tanzania (including Tourists, Tanzanians, returning residents and those in transit through land borders who are:
    1. Fully vaccinated* - will be exempted from both RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test requirements. Travelers will be required to present a valid vaccination certificate with QR code for verification upon arrival. The only accepted vaccines are those which have been approved by the United Republic of Tanzania and the World Health Organization (list here: https://extranet.who.int/pqweb/sites/default/files/documents/Status_COVID_VAX_02March2022.pdf)
      * Fully vaccinated means complete administered dose(s) of the vaccines as prescribed by manufacturer and approved by the World Health Organization.
    2. Not fully vaccinated or un-vaccinated (including those not eligible for vaccination) will be required to present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR or NAATs certificate with a QR code obtained within 72 hours before departure.
    3. Not fully vaccinated and have no negative COVID-19 RT- PCR certificate (including unvaccinated and those not eligible for vaccination due to their country policies) will be tested for COVID 19 upon arrival using a Rapid Antigen Test at their own cost of TZS 23,000 ($10 USD) for Tanzania Mainland except children aged 12 years and below and aircraft crew. Positive cases will be further confirmed by RT- PCR at a cost of TZS 120,000 ($50 USD).
    4. Travelers in transit by air transport are exempted from both vaccination and COVID 19 testing requirements unless stated otherwise by the conveyance to be used or countries of their final destinations.
  2. All departing travelers are advised to seek information prior to departure from their travel agents regarding COVID-19 requirements of their country of destination or conveyance to be used.
  3. Children aged 12 years and below are exempted from all RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test requirements.

ZANZIBAR COVID ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

The entry requirements have changed into Zanzibar (12 August 2022). The major points for our tourists to consider when traveling to Zanzibar are:

  1. All travelers entering the United Republic of Tanzania (including Tourists, Tanzanians, returning residents and those in transit through land borders who are:
    1. Fully vaccinated* - will be exempted from both RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test requirements. Travelers will be required to present a valid vaccination certificate with QR code for verification upon arrival.
